MIMI'S KASBAH

Guest House

ABOUT

The fifth of eight children in a traditional Berber family, I grew up in an environment rich in values and traditions. The loss of my father at the age of 10 led me to work from a young age to support my mother and family. I always loved learning, but sitting still on a school bench was not for me. My professional career began as a guide in my region, before becoming a waiter in Essaouira for four years. This job allowed me to discover my passion for human contact and exchanges. Life then took me to Portugal, where I lived for 14 years. I worked in a gourmet restaurant, in tourism, and in the sale of Moroccan crafts. These years were marked by warmth, nature, the beach, and an openness to new cultures. For the past seven years, I have lived in France, where I met my wife, who shares this life project with me. Together, we imagined and worked on the restaurant's decoration and menu, combining the elements we love most from our two cultures. In France, I also discovered a different climate, conducive to enjoying French recipes and warm interiors, ideal for winter. Today, I am realizing my teenage dream with this Kasbah, an authentic place where I want to share my original culture while integrating what I loved about Portugal and France. The goal is to offer a warm and cozy welcome, where everyone can feel good, whether for a night between two stages or for a few days, in order to take the time to live at the rhythm of the valley.

HISTORY

A Kasbah (Arabic: قصبة qasaba, with variants such as qasbah, casbah, qasaba) is a traditional citadel or fortress, typical of the Maghreb regions, particularly Morocco. Although the term is known throughout the country, the Kasbah is particularly associated with the southern Moroccan regions, the Middle Atlas and the High Atlas, where they were historically used as residences and defense points. Built primarily of earth, the Kasbah offers natural resistance to extreme climates. The architecture of our Kasbah reflects this ancestral tradition, while being adapted to contemporary needs, combining authenticity, comfort and serenity.

Our Kasbah is located near the ancient village of Aït Ibriren, in a peaceful setting, away from the noise and bustle, and away from main roads. Its location allows you to fully enjoy the peace and serenity of the valley, with breathtaking views of the surrounding natural beauty.

One of the Kasbah's unique highlights is the famous natural spring , or sagia, which runs directly through the property. This spring, a rare treasure in the village, symbolizes purity and life, while bringing freshness and serenity to this exceptional setting.
The traditional architecture of the Kasbah is the result of the work of local artisans, who used materials sourced from the surrounding area. Every detail was carefully crafted to respect ancestral traditions while providing an authentic and comfortable experience. The work, undertaken during the Covid-related border closures, allowed for the renovation and embellishment of the Kasbah, respecting local know-how while incorporating a modern and elegant touch.

ROOMS / RATES

The six rooms of the Kasbah each bear the name of an aromatic plant (Thyme, Rosemary, Mint, Basil, Lavender and Henna) inspired by my life journey, from my childhood in Morocco, through Portugal, to France.

The names of the plants reflect the milestones in this story. Thyme and rosemary, found in the mountains surrounding the valley, evoke the traditional remedies and natural treatments my mother prepared during my childhood. Mint, the symbol of Moroccan tea, and henna, deeply rooted in Berber culture, recall the traditions of my native country.

My time in Portugal is embodied by Basil, a plant omnipresent in Portuguese gardens, which recalls warmth, the beach, fresh salads and beautiful terraces bathed in sunshine.

Finally, Lavender echoes the vast fragrant fields of Provence, France, where I discovered a culture imbued with serenity and elegance.

All our rooms, located throughout the Kasbah, feature a private terrace, central heating, and air conditioning. Each space combines comfort, charm, and a unique view of the valley's natural treasures.

Room prices include breakfast and tourist taxes.
